Campaigns that mobilize people

Political Canvassing Services for Democratic Campaigns

Revolution Field Strategies designs and manages paid political canvassing programs for Democratic campaigns, party committees, nonprofits, ballot initiatives, and advocacy organizations across the country.

We build the operation from the ground up; recruitment, daily field management, quality control, and reporting, giving campaigns one accountable partner for execution at the door.

RFS has managed hundreds of  canvass programs nationally  and has knocked on more than 7 million doors.

What Is Political Canvassing?

Political canvassing is direct voter outreach through face-to-face conversations, usually at voters' doors.

Campaigns use canvassing to listen to voters, communicate a message, identify support, provide voter education, and help people make a plan to participate.

The conversation at the door is only one part of the program. Effective political canvassing also depends on recruitment, training, usable turf, field leadership, accurate data, quality control, and daily oversight.

RFS manages those pieces as one coordinated field operation.

How RFS Builds and Runs a Political Canvassing Program

Every campaign has a different goal, timeline, voter universe, geography, and budget. RFS builds the canvass around those conditions rather than forcing every program into the same model.

Our political canvassing services can include:

  • program strategy, staffing, and budget design;

  • local canvasser recruitment and screening;

  • W-2 hiring, onboarding, and paid training;

  • field leadership and staffing plans;

  • script and message preparation with the campaign;

  • turf preparation and daily data management;

  • canvasser deployment and field supervision;

  • performance tracking and quality control;

  • client dashboards and daily reporting; and

  • adjustments as field conditions, campaign priorities, or voter-contact needs change.

RFS works as an extension of the campaign team while taking responsibility for day-to-day execution.

National Infrastructure. Local Teams.

RFS combines national operating infrastructure with locally recruited field teams.

Centralized Reqruitement

Our centralized recruitment, human resources, operations, training, data, and quality-control teams handle much of the administrative work that can otherwise consume an in-state campaign operation.

Local Training and Expertise

Field managers can spend more time on the work that matters: developing canvassers, managing turf, improving voter conversations, and maintaining program quality.

Candidates are screened, interviewed, background-checked, and hired as W-2 employees. Mandatory training time is paid before a canvasser enters the field.

Room to Scale

RFS aims to build a recruitment pipeline equal to five to six times the canvassers needed at peak ramp. That gives programs room to scale while maintaining performance standards as the operation grows.

Relational Organizing

Training Continues in the Field

Political canvassing training should prepare people for the actual campaign, community, technology, and conversations they will encounter.

RFS builds training around those conditions.

Initial training can include:

  • campaign and message instruction;

  • live demonstrations;

  • script practice and role-play;

  • voter-engagement techniques;

  • data-entry and technology procedures;

  • field-safety expectations; and

  • written proficiency testing before deployment.

Training does not stop after the first shift.

Once the canvass is running, managers use daily debriefs, field observation, targeted skills sessions, and retraining to improve execution.

When the campaign's message, script, voter universe, or priorities change, the training changes with them.

Quality Control Starts on Day One

A political canvassing company should be able to show a campaign not only how much activity took place, but whether the work met the program's standards.

RFS evaluates canvasser work on the day it is produced.

Quality control combines field leadership with data review so managers can identify problems quickly, understand what happened, and take corrective action before the next shift.

Our quality-control process can include:

  • real-time field tracking and check-ins;

  • timestamp and data-anomaly review;

  • in-turf observation by field leadership;

  • post-shift debriefs;

  • randomized callbacks to voter contacts;

  • targeted retraining;

  • escalation of recurring performance issues; and

  • removal of data that does not meet program quality standards.

RFS reports quality concerns to clients rather than hiding them.

Shifts that fall below our quality standards are removed from client billing.

What Should a Campaign Look for in a Political Canvassing Firm?

Choosing a political canvassing firm means trusting another organization with your message, voter data, budget, and day-to-day field execution.

When campaigns compare political canvassing firms or political canvassing companies, we believe four areas matter most.

A Staffing Model That Can Actually Scale

Recruiting a few canvassers is different from maintaining a field organization through a major ramp.

The staffing plan needs enough recruitment depth to replace attrition, maintain standards, and respond when campaign needs change.

Quality Control Close to the Work

Problems are easier to fix on the day they happen than a week later.

Field observation, data review, callbacks, debriefs, and retraining give managers multiple ways to understand what is actually happening at the door.

Training Built Around the Campaign

Canvassers should understand more than a script.

They need to understand the campaign's goals, the community, the technology, voter-engagement expectations, and how their work is measured.

Reporting That Gives the Campaign Visibility

A campaign should know how staffing, production, quality, and spending are tracking while the canvass is live.

Reporting should help the team make decisions, not simply document activity after the fact.

Scope Your Political Canvassing Program

Tell us what you are planning, where the work will take place, who you need to reach, and when the program needs to begin.

We will start with the campaign's goals, voter-contact needs, timeline, geography, and resources, then help determine the field structure required to execute it.

Need More Than Canvassing?

Political canvassing is one part of a larger field operation.

RFS also supports Democratic organizations with field strategy and voter-contact execution across our broader range of campaign services.
